Fasting To Lose Weight - Read This Before You Start

By Leonard Fast

Fasting to lose weight will give you the body of a movie star in only two weeks, or so the sales pitch goes.

The excess pounds will melt away as you consume nothing but water or juice for 10 days or more, leaving you looking like Jennifer Aniston or George Clooney.

Sound too good to be true? Yep - it is! Used on its own, fasting to lose weight is the worst way to get in shape.

OK, you’ve probably seen all the ads about water fasting to lose weight or juice fasting to lose weight and all the testimonials from people who dropped 10, 20, 30 pounds on them. And you’re confused when I say they could actually be bad for you.

Let me emphasize that fasting for just a day or two is OK, but you should never go on an extended liquid-only fast just because you want to drop a few pounds. Fasting was never intended buy itself to be a weight loss method. Fasting to lose weight is a classic example of a “get rich quick” scheme and if it sounds too good to be true, well you know the rest.

Here’s the sad truth - if you do go on an extended liquid-only fast, you will lose weight - sometimes a lot of it in a very short time. That’s why it is so appealing. But in most cases, that weight piles back on as soon as the fast is over. Some fasters even find themselves heavier because they are so hungry after a fast they can’t stop eating! In fact, I’d like to see the long-term outcomes of some of those water and juice fasters if they don’t also change the bad habits that got them overweight in the first place!

Extended liquid-only fasts send a distress signal to your body that it is being starved! Your brain will slow down your metabolism and you’ll have less energy. The aim of every decent weight loss program should be to speed up your metabolism, not slow it down!

And water fasting for weight loss - for an extended period - can actually make you sick, causing headaches, dizziness and constipation. If you fast for a long time you’ll also lose muscle.

OK, so no fasting if you want to lose weight? Well, no! There IS definitely a role for fasting in a healthy lifestyle and even if you want to lose weight, but you have to do it the right way. Remember, religions and cultures the world over practice short fasts - your doctor even insists on a 12-hour fast if he wants to take blood samples! And some illnesses, like tummy bugs, can actually be treated by fasting - denying those little critters the nutrition they need to make you miserable!

A short fast also gives your digestive system a rest from the daily grind of meals and the other junk in between - coffee, candy, snacks perhaps even alcohol.

To use fasting as part of a weight loss plan you need to check out a wonderful guide by an expert, Master Cleanse Secrets by Raylen Stirling. It’s a fast that includes food!
